Camden Lutheran Housing, Inc. sponsors community initiatives that revitalize the North Camden neighborhood by cleaning and beautifying streets, stabilizing vacant properties, promoting inspiring messages, and implementing the North Camden Neighborhood Plan with partners.

The Block Supporter Initiative

is a community-based program that creates shared pride, respect, and responsibility in Camden neighborhoods while transforming “blight to bright!” Block Supporters keep the front and back of their properties clean, beautify the front of their homes, help care for vacant lots, and participate in community meetings. This program was founded by Camden resident Benigno Rodriguez in 2004 and has been in North Camden since 2015, with Mr. Rodriguez leading all efforts. Change the Message

is a billboard campaign that replaces negative advertising with positive messaging and information sharing on six North Camden billboards. Tired of seeing ads for funeral homes, debt collectors, cheap/quick divorce, and alcohol? CLHI started “Change the Message” to inspire and uplift North Camden residents, share resources, and promote community events. Decorative Board-Up

is a summer program that started in 2014, stabilizing and securing derelict abandoned properties in the North Camden neighborhood by cleaning the exterior and boarding and painting. Each summer, The Neighborhood Foundation from Chicago comes to Camden to lead a crew of local workers to beautify some of our most blighted vacant properties. The Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (NRTC)

program in North Camden engages community partners in the collective implementation of the resident-driven North Camden Neighborhood Plan. Camden Lutheran Housing is the lead grant applicant and provides support to partners, including such organizations as HopeWorks ‘N Camden, the NJ Tree Foundation, the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties, the Camden Community Development Association, Cooper’s Ferry Partnership, and Respond, Inc.
